Rolfing® Structural Integration

A holistic system of soft tissue manipulation and movement education that organizes the whole body in gravity. Rolfing® addresses the body's connective tissue (fascia) to release, realign and balance the whole body, potentially resolving discomfort, reducing compensations, and alleviating pain.

Through a series of sessions, I work systematically to bring your body into better alignment, improving posture, flexibility, and overall well-being.

Orthopedic Massage Therapy

A medically-oriented form of massage that focuses on the treatment of pain and injury resulting from musculoskeletal imbalances, soft tissue dysfunction, and postoperative rehabilitation.

Using specific protocols, orthopedic massage addresses the underlying causes of pain by assessing and treating the affected muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia. This approach helps restore function, reduce pain, and improve mobility.

Everything you need to know about Rolfing® and Orthopedic Massage

Rolfing® Structural Integration

Rolfing® Structural Integration is a bodywork and movement education system that works to release chronic pain, improve posture, and restore mobility by bringing the body more into harmony with gravity.

What makes Rolfing® different: Its ultimate goal is for the client to become self-sufficient and able to treat themselves.

The Rolfing® philosophy: By learning to respect gravity and how our bodies are designed to work within it, we create more ease in our lives physically, mentally, and spiritually.

The Ten-Series® is divided into three natural phases:

  • Sessions 1-3: Laying the Groundwork — Surface alignment, breath, and balance
  • Sessions 4-7: Building Core Support — Deep structural connection from pelvis to head
  • Sessions 8-10: Whole-Body Balance — Integration and lasting ease

Each phase has a natural break point, allowing you to pause and assess your progress.

I recommend clients start with just the first session and see if it feels useful. If it does, I recommend completing sessions two and three as that completes the first module of "superficial" sessions. You can then take a break for as long as you wish.

If you'd like to continue right away, I then recommend completing sessions four through seven (the "core" sessions), where there's another natural break before sessions eight through ten.

I've had some clients complete the ten series over the course of a year, while others have completed it in a few months. The pace is entirely up to you and your body's needs.

I generally recommend no less than a week between sessions to allow the work to integrate into your body. For the same reason, I recommend no more than a month between sessions within a module to maintain momentum and progress.

Between modules (after sessions 3 and 7), you can take longer breaks as needed.

Wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing such as shorts and a tank top or swimsuit. This allows me to see your body's structure and work effectively with your fascia. You'll remain fully clothed during sessions.

Rolfing® can feel intense at times, but it shouldn't be unbearable. Many clients describe the sensation as "good pain" or "productive discomfort." I always work within your comfort level and communicate throughout the session. The work is collaborative—you're always in control.

While massage focuses on relaxing muscles, Rolfing® works with the connective tissue (fascia) to reorganize your entire body in gravity. Think of massage as making you feel better temporarily, while Rolfing® creates lasting structural change. Rolfing® also includes a movement education component to help you maintain results.

Orthopedic Massage

As compared to a luxury or "spa-style" massage, orthopedic massage is a more medical and therapeutic treatment using a combination of techniques such as myofascial release, sports massage, and neuromuscular therapy.

While not necessarily "deep tissue," orthopedic massage often feels deeper than traditional massage as it works directly with the nervous system to release tight muscles and tissue.

If you have a specific, acute issue and want targeted relief, start with orthopedic massage—it's the "fix me now" treatment. If you're dealing with chronic, whole-body patterns or want lasting structural change, Rolfing® is ideal—it's the "help me fix myself so I don't need to come in as often" treatment.

Many clients use both approaches complementarily throughout their wellness journey.

This depends on your specific condition. Some clients feel significant relief after 1-2 sessions, while chronic issues may require 4-6 sessions. We'll assess your progress after each session and adjust the treatment plan accordingly.

Yes! Orthopedic massage is specifically designed for injuries. However, please let me know about any recent injuries, surgeries, or medical conditions before your first session. I'll work with your healthcare provider's recommendations and adjust techniques as needed.
